Michael Joseph McNeil, 27, of Lowell, died Monday morning, March 9th, 2009 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Lowell, November 22, 1981, the son of Michael A. and Mary Jo (Jeffers) McNeil, he attended Lowell schools and graduated with honors from the Greater Lowell Technical High School in the Class of 2000.

Michael worked and attended U-Mass Lowell and was a very active member of the Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity whose members described Mike as always positive with a strong sense of brotherhood. He loved hanging and camping with his fraternity brothers to whom he was known as “Turd Ferguson”. Despite his illness, Mike was a varsity swimmer.

Mike was an avid sports fan attending many Red Sox and Celtics games with his family and friends.

Besides his parents, Mike is survived by his brother and best friend Ryan P. McNeil of Lowell; his paternal grandmother Marguerite H. McNeil of Lowell; as well as a many uncles, aunts and cousins as well as his special surrogate nieces and nephews Kaitlyn and Alec Bowe, D.J., Davis and Lydia Bryant.

He was also the grandson of the late Papa Jack McNeil and the late Lt. Frederick L. Jeffers, LFD and the late Helen R. (Davis) Jeffers.
